The short answer
From 1:00 PM ET on Monday, October 19, 2026, Polymarket US stops paying its flat rebate on resting (maker) orders unless you are in a high-volume tier: $10 million or more in maker volume the month before (for the launch week, the higher of your September volume or four times your October 12 to 18 volume). The fee on orders that fill straight away (taker orders) does not change: it still peaks at about $1.74 per 100 contracts at a 50-cent price.

| Until 1:00 PM ET, October 19 | From 1:00 PM ET, October 19 | |
|---|---|---|

What does that mean for a typical California trader?
- If you tap buy or sell and your order fills at once, nothing changes. You pay the same taker fee as today.
- If you place limit orders that wait on the book, you lose a small credit. Today a resting order that gets filled earns about 31 cents per 100 contracts at a 50-cent price. From October 19 that credit is zero unless you are in a volume tier (see the launch-week rule under Key dates). Resting orders still pay no fee.
- Combo fills still earn no maker rebate. That was already the case. Their taker fee uses a separate, higher formula, and the lower taker-rebate percentages for high-volume traders apply to combo fees too.
- Table Tennis markets keep their higher taker fee: $2.50 per 100 contracts at 50 cents.
How much is the taker fee? (unchanged)
The fee depends on the price. It is highest at 50 cents and falls toward 1 cent and 99 cents.
| Price per contract | Fee on 100 contracts |
|---|---|
| $0.10 | $0.63 |
| $0.30 | $1.46 |
| $0.50 | $1.74 |
| $0.65 | $1.58 |
| $0.90 | $0.63 |
We worked these from Polymarket US's formula: fee = 0.0695 × contracts × price × (1 − price). Its own examples: buying 1,000 contracts at $0.50 costs $17.38 in fees, and buying 1,000 at $0.10 costs $6.26. Fees are rounded to the nearest cent, and on very small trades they can round down to zero.
What happens to the maker rebate?
From October 19 the rebate depends on your maker volume in the previous calendar month:
| Maker volume, prior calendar month | Rebate from October 19 |
|---|---|
| Below $10,000,000 | No maker rebate |
| $10,000,000 to $49,999,999 | About 5% of the standard taker fee |
| $50,000,000 to $199,999,999 | About 10% |
| $200,000,000 or more | About 15% |
For comparison, today's flat rebate works out to about 18% of the standard taker fee. Example from the fee page: a resting order for 1,000 contracts filled at $0.50 earns $3.12 today. From October 19, the same fill earns nothing for anyone below the $10 million tier (for the launch week, $2.5 million from October 12 to 18 also qualifies, because that week counts four times).
What happens to the taker rebate?
It still exists only for high-volume traders, but the percentages drop:
| Taker volume, prior calendar month | Today | From October 19 |
|---|---|---|
| Below $250,000 | None | None |
| $250,000 to $999,999 | 10% | 3% |
| $1,000,000 to $9,999,999 | 25% | 5% |
| $10,000,000 to $24,999,999 | 50% | 10% |
| $25,000,000 to $49,999,999 | 50% | 15% |
| $50,000,000 or more | 50% | 30% |
Key dates
- Thursday, October 15, 2026, 8:00 AM ET: the extra weekly rebate for makers in crypto markets ends.
- Monday, October 19, 2026, 1:00 PM ET: volume tiers start. For this launch only, your tier is set by the higher of your September 2026 volume or four times your volume from October 12 to 18.
Should this change how you trade?
For small accounts the difference is cents. A limit order that rests on the book is still the cheaper way to trade on Polymarket US: it pays no fee, while any order that fills at once, including a limit order priced to match an existing one, pays the taker fee. What disappears is the small credit on top. If you compare platforms on cost, compare the fee you would actually pay at your usual price and size: see our Kalshi fees vs Polymarket fees comparison and how to deposit on Polymarket from California. Fees are one input; trading event contracts is risky and you can lose your whole stake.

Frequently asked questions
Is Polymarket US raising its trading fees on October 19?
No. The taker fee formula and rate do not change. What changes is the rebates: the flat maker rebate ends for anyone below $10 million in monthly maker volume, and the taker rebate percentages for high-volume traders are lower.
Does Polymarket US charge fees on limit orders?
A limit order that rests on the book and is later filled pays no fee. If your limit order fills immediately against an existing order, it is a taker order and pays the taker fee.
How much does Polymarket US charge per trade?
For an order that fills at once: 0.0695 × contracts × price × (1 − price). That is about $1.74 per 100 contracts at 50 cents and about $0.63 per 100 at 10 or 90 cents. Table Tennis and combo trades use higher rates.
When exactly do the new rebates start?
At 1:00 PM ET on Monday, October 19, 2026. The extra weekly rebate for makers in crypto markets ends earlier, at 8:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Who still gets a maker rebate after October 19?
Traders with at least $10,000,000 of maker volume in the prior calendar month, in three tiers worth about 5%, 10% and 15% of the standard taker fee. For the October 19 launch only, the tier uses the higher of September 2026 volume or four times the volume from October 12 to 18.
Do the changes affect deposits, withdrawals or the sign-up bonus?
Polymarket US's notice covers trading fees and rebates only. It does not mention deposits, withdrawals or promotions.
