Information we collect
Information you provide directly:
- Email address, when you sign up for our newsletter
- Message content, when you email us
Information collected automatically:
- Browser type, operating system, device type
- IP address (usually truncated for privacy)
- Pages visited, referral source, time on page
- Interaction events (clicks on affiliate links, outbound navigation)
We use Google Analytics 4 (or equivalent) to collect anonymous usage data. We do not collect personally identifying information beyond what you explicitly provide (such as your email).
How we use information
- To send newsletter emails to subscribers
- To understand how the site is used and improve it
- To track which articles drive affiliate signups (for internal analysis only; we do not share reader-level data with platforms)
- To respond to email inquiries
Cookies and tracking
We use standard analytics cookies to count visits and understand site usage. We do not use cross-site tracking, advertising cookies, or behavioral targeting. You can disable cookies in your browser at any time without losing functionality.
Affiliate links sometimes use cookies set by the destination platform to attribute your signup. We do not set those cookies; the platforms do. If you follow one of our affiliate links, the platform's privacy policy applies to your interactions with them.
How we share information
We do not sell your data. We do not rent your email address. We do not share reader-level data with prediction market platforms or any third party.
We do share:
- Aggregate, anonymized traffic data with our analytics provider (currently Google, via Google Analytics 4)
- Your email address with our newsletter provider (currently Beehiiv, or whoever else we use) for the purpose of delivering newsletters you subscribed to
Your rights
California residents (CCPA/CPRA):
You have the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, to request deletion, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@californiapredictionmarkets.com. We'll respond within 45 days.
Newsletter subscribers:
You can unsubscribe from any newsletter email via the unsubscribe link at the bottom. Unsubscribing removes your email from our mailing list permanently.
Data retention
We keep newsletter subscriber emails until you unsubscribe. We keep anonymous analytics data for up to 26 months. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable period afterward.
Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect the limited data we hold. That said, no system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security issue, email security@californiapredictionmarkets.com.
Children
California Prediction Markets is intended for readers 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us, email privacy@californiapredictionmarkets.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date at the top and, where appropriate, notify newsletter subscribers.
